What does Autumnal Book covers mean??? Orange? Leaves? I don’t know. Anyways, here’s what I’ve got for this one. As usual for my book cover posts, I’m talking artists not authors, and book covers will link to their websites if I could easily find them.

- The Magic Fish, cover (and book) by Trung Le Nguyen: look at that jacket! If that isn’t an autumn jacket, then I don’t know what is. It plays a moderately sized role in the story too! Nguyen’s art is phenomenal, and I especially love how he draws hair. His tarot deck is one of my all-time favorites as well, for those who are interested. The Lovers has several options depending on your gender preferences for the card.
- Root Magic, cover by Jennifer Bricking: it’s a little spooky, the mist looks chilly, and feels very on brand. Bricking does a lot of work in kids art, though this is far on the creepy end for her. Cute animals are common in her portfolio.
- Pumpkinheads, cover (and inside art) by Faith Erin Hicks: a romp and riot of a bisexual love story between two pumpkin patch workers. A fun little graphic novel.
- The Last Apprentice Series, covers by Patrick Arrasmith: honestly all of his covers give me big Autumn vibes. This leans into the halloween side of Autumn, before the snows have begun to fall. Look at that cloak!
- The Four Profound Weaves, cover by Elilzabeth Story: I think the bone is what pushed me towards feeling Autumn when I look at this cover? A lot of Story’s covers give me this type of feeling though. She’s got a very distinct style.
- Scary Stories for Young Foxes, cover by Junyi Wu: I don’t really think this one needs explaining? As an aside, this is my favorite kids horror book. Really good without going too hard.
- The Fox’s Tower and Other Tales, cover by Mariya Olshevska: the cover is simple and evocative and so very autumn! She’s got a pretty wide breadth of styles, and this is far simpler than what she normally goes for. It fits the fairy tale atmosphere of this collection of delightful and magical flash fiction pieces.
- Where Fire Reigns, cover by Andrew Archer: technically this would probably fit better with summer, as this 2027 release is about Fire Cultists. However, the giant skeleton screams Autumn to me and also takes me back to my days obsessing over The Lion King.
- The Fall of Elvenesse, cover by Gulnur Ras: we’re getting a new Kai Ashante Williams book! Pretty sure these are supposed to be flames, but I read them like leaves. I am here for a new (hopefully gay?) epic fantasy about tyrannical elves.
