I am so bad at this! The more I read – and I’m reading more than ever before – the more I feel like there are so many great books that I haven’t gotten the chance to touch. These are books which I immediately wanted to read, but which have ended up languishing on my bookshelf. I’m limiting myself to physical books

- Slow Gods by Claire North: I’ve heard this does a great job at depicting the mind of dark god set in space. It astounds me I haven’t opened this one yet.
- The Everlasting by Alix E Harrow: I’ve been hit or miss with this author, but this book has gotten such relentless praise that I want to take the plunge.
- The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde: The Importance of Being Earnest is one of my favorite plays, and this is a queer classic. Why have I not read it yet? It keeps getting put aside for the new shiny thing, and I need to stop!
- The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker: I’ve heard nothing but good things about this historical Jewish Fantasy. A golem protagonist searching for purpose? Yes please!
- Powder and Feathers by Johannes T. Evans: I’ve loved everything by this author, but its 1,000+ page count and dark themes have kept me from reading it yet.
- The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu: engaging epic fantasy with a sense for history. This should be everything I love, but I’ve heard book 1 can be challenging
- The Bees by Laline Paull: a book about a sanitation bee. It was a book club option I liked the premise of so much I bought it, but when it didn’t get picked I didn’t read it immediately, and haven’t gotten around to it yet.
- Glitterland by Alexis Hall: a contemporary Romance that I’ve heard is absolutely gut wrenching. I need to be in a very specific mood to enjoy this, I think.
- Saga by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples: a classic spec fic comic that went mainstream. Plus its queer!
- The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso: I’ve heard this pitched as an eldritch mystery through hell … and I’m very excited about that prospect.
Have you all read any of these? As always, I try to find a balance of making progress on my backlog with chasing after the new book that caught my eye.
